Tug of War Information & Rules

Rope

The rope is the most important piece of equipment, approximately 11 cm in circumference and 34 metres long, made of tweed with plain whipped ends.

Participant Equipment

Participants may use gloves, specialist boots, back, elbow and knee support as well as belts to support their backs.

Winning the Game

Each team has a mark on their end of the rope 4 metres from the centre. The team who is pulled by the opposition towards the centre whose mark goes over the centre line is declared the loser. The match will be the best of three. The team that successfully wins two out of three pulls will be declared the winner of the match. The winner will continue to progress up the league with the other team competing again with others to provide them with the opportunity to get back onto the league.

Rules of Tug of War

Each team in the Tug of War competition will consist of eleven persons, eight pullers (consisting of 4 females and 4 males) 2 reservists and one coach/driver. The latter will not be pulling but giving directions when to rest and pull from the side-lines. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Both teams pull the rope, the winner being the team who manages to pull the 4-metre mark on the rope closest to their opponents over the centre line.

The rope must be pulled underarm, and nobody’s elbow must go below the knee otherwise a foul will be called. The judge’s decision will be final.

Participation and liability injury disclaimer

All participants will need to agree and sign a personal injury waiver disclaiming liability, freeing the Prostate Cancer Group trustees and delegates from any liability, indemnity, or any possible injuries from this event.
