A Year of Progress, Partnership and Community Support
Prostate Cancer Gibraltar reflects on a significant year of achievements at its 2026 Annual General Meeting, highlighting advances in surgical technology, continued patient support and the extraordinary generosity of Gibraltar's community.
Celebrating a Year of Collective Achievement
Prostate Cancer Gibraltar held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 8 October 2026, bringing together members, supporters and volunteers to review the charity's progress and discuss priorities for the coming year.
Chairman Joe Holliday welcomed those attending and expressed his gratitude to everyone who had contributed to the charity's work.
Reflecting on the period since the previous AGM in September 2025, he described a highly successful year, made possible through the dedication of the Committee, volunteers, benefactors and the wider Gibraltar community.
Robotic Surgery: A Transformational Achievement for Gibraltar
One of the most significant achievements highlighted during the meeting was the approximately £860,000 robotic surgical equipment project at St Bernard's Hospital.
The project was made possible through the combined efforts of charitable benefactors, funds made available through the Gibraltar Health Authority and fundraising and private donations secured by Prostate Cancer Gibraltar. Special recognition was given to the generous contribution of the Kusuma Trust.
The Chairman expressed particular appreciation to the major benefactors, local businesses, individual donors and everyone who helped make such an ambitious project possible.
Importantly, the equipment has potential benefits extending beyond prostate cancer treatment, including use in other surgical specialties such as gynaecology and colorectal surgery.
Supporting Men and Their Families
Beyond equipment and fundraising, the Chairman emphasised that personal support remains at the heart of Prostate Cancer Gibraltar's work.
The Buddies Network
The charity's Buddies Network connects men affected by prostate cancer with others who have experienced similar diagnoses and treatments.
Sharing personal experiences can provide valuable reassurance during an often challenging time.
Working with Cancer Relief
The AGM highlighted the importance of helping patients and families access the services available through Cancer Relief Gibraltar.
Treasurer Elio Chevasco will act as the Committee's liaison with the organisation.
Listening to Patients
Members discussed PSA testing, referral pathways, diagnostic delays and rehabilitation following treatment.
The Committee will continue raising relevant concerns with healthcare professionals within the GHA.
Strengthening Collaboration with the GHA
Close collaboration with the Gibraltar Health Authority continues to be a central part of the charity's approach.
Joe Holliday discussed the importance of communication between patients, healthcare professionals and support organisations, particularly when difficulties arise with appointments, investigations or referrals.
Members additionally raised questions concerning pelvic-floor rehabilitation and access to post-treatment services. The Chairman undertook to seek clarification about current provision and potential improvements.
The People Behind Our Progress
Gibraltar's generosity and willingness to support others continue to make an extraordinary difference to the charity's work.
Throughout the meeting, the Chairman acknowledged the commitment of the Committee, the Buddies Network, trustees, volunteers, supporters and local businesses.
Attendees also shared their own experiences of prostate cancer, reinforcing the value of awareness, appropriate medical follow-up and support from others who understand the challenges involved.
Existing Committee members confirmed their willingness to continue serving, with no changes to the Committee announced at the AGM.
Treasurer's Annual Report
Treasurer Elio Chevasco presented the audited accounts for the year ended 31 December 2025 and provided an overview of the charity's financial position.
The report reflected the significant fundraising activity associated with the robotic surgery project, alongside the charity's ongoing operational, publicity and awareness-related expenditure.
The Treasurer reiterated that the organisation remained in a sound financial position, and members were informed that the annual accounts were available for inspection, if required.
