Minister Arias-Vasquez Officially Opens One-Stop Shop Urology Clinic at St Bernard’s Hospital
The Minister for Health and Care, Hon. Gemma Arias-Vasquez, officially inaugurated the new One-Stop Shop Urology Clinic at St Bernard’s Hospital. This enhanced medical facility will streamline care for all new referrals, including urgent and routine cases, within dedicated clinical sessions.
The clinic will be led by Dr Paul Hughes and Dr James Allan, who will provide a range of diagnostic assessments during a single visit. These include diagnostic cystoscopies, monitoring urinary flow rates, and catheter care management. Additionally, a walk-in consulting room will allow same-day reviews for medically urgent concerns.
Joe Holliday, Chairman of Prostate Cancer Gibraltar (PCG), welcomed the much-needed service, stating: “Our objective was to see a one-stop shop urology clinic sited in the hospital with all the required facilities and equipment in one location. This will improve efficiency and provide patients with quicker medical attention.” He also honoured his predecessor, Derek Ghio, for his dedication and commitment in initiating this project.
The clinic was made possible with support from the Kusuma Trust, represented by Michelle Tosso, who highlighted their long-standing partnership with PCG. Tosso noted the funding of a Medi-Matic 2 dynamic examination couch, which will serve as an integral component of the clinic’s operations.
GHA Director General, Kevin McGee, praised the clinic as a significant addition to Gibraltar’s healthcare infrastructure, stating: “This partnership with Prostate Cancer Gibraltar demonstrates how collaboration with community groups can improve targeted healthcare for patients.”
Minister Arias-Vasquez expressed her pride in inaugurating the clinic, acknowledging the increasing demand for prostate-related medical services. She thanked Prostate Cancer Gibraltar and the Kusuma Trust for their contributions, adding: “This one-stop clinic will go a long way in meeting the growing demand and will help so many in Gibraltar.”
The new clinic represents a milestone in Gibraltar’s healthcare, enhancing efficiency and providing faster, patient-focused care for urology-related ailments.
