Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service Shows Outstanding Support at Shave-Off Day

As part of this year’s Walnut Campaign, Prostate Cancer Gibraltar was honoured to welcome the Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service (GFRS) to our annual Shave-Off Day, held at The Piazza on Saturday 29th November 2025. Their presence brought extraordinary energy, visibility, and solidarity to the event — turning the morning into a powerful demonstration of community support for men’s health.

Arriving in full uniform, a large group of firefighters gathered in front of the Prostate Cancer Gibraltar stand, proudly wearing their now-famous moustaches grown throughout November. Their participation drew significant attention from the public, with pedestrians stopping to take photos, ask questions, and learn more about prostate cancer awareness.

A Team Effort That Made an Impact

The GFRS joined the campaign not only by attending but by taking part in the symbolic shave-off — showing that even the toughest professions can unite to promote early detection and open discussion. Their involvement particularly highlighted the importance of ensuring that men in physically demanding, high-stress occupations look after their health and remain aware of early signs and symptoms.

In several touching moments throughout the morning, members of the Fire & Rescue Service posed with supporters, held awareness material, and spoke with members of the community about why men over 50 — and those with family history — should prioritise PSA testing. Their enthusiasm helped spread the message far beyond the event itself.

A Strong Message from Gibraltar’s First Responders

The presence of an entire team of firefighters helped capture the spirit of the Walnut Campaign: strength, unity, and awareness. Their willingness to stand with us publicly reinforces an important message — that prostate cancer can affect any man, regardless of age, fitness, or background, and early detection truly saves lives.

Prostate Cancer Gibraltar extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service for their exceptional support, community spirit, and engagement. Their participation was invaluable and contributed significantly to the success of Shave-Off Day 2025.

We also thank the families, volunteers, and supporters who joined us in raising awareness in the heart of Main Street.

Together, we continue to make prostate cancer something men face — not fear.
